When it became apparent that we could not buy enough food without using credit every month to pay our grocery purchases and infrequent restaurant bills in addition to our other bills, I began to panic.

No matter what we did (including buying much of our food in bulk at Samīs Club), we still ended up drawing money out of our Visa account to pay for food every single month, and this has resulted in a whopping credit card debt that we are struggling to pay interest on each month right now.

Fortunately, and in the nick of time it seems (thanks in large part, no doubt, to Godīs Providence in answering prayer), a friend in similar straits told us about a food program called Angel Food Ministries. This nation-wide food distribution ministry helps people like us who are under employed or unemployed to make ends meet.

After checking out the Angel Food web site and finding a distribution center that is convenient for us to go to, we placed our first order for some food through them this month, and will pick up our first groceries via Angel Food Ministries on October 25th, 2008.

Now, what we have found out that is remarkable about this program is that the groceries that are distributed are good quality foods, not seconds. The only difference between the food they provides and store bought foods is that it doesnīt come in fancy packaging, and no boxes or bags are given to help transport it home.

Thatīs no problem for us, and we are more than ready to provide our own means of carting our share of the food home when the pick-up date arrives. We have plenty of bags and boxes to do this with, though we only ordered a modest amount of food this month due to the small size of our freezer.

Nonetheless, for $51.00, we will be getting meats and other foods that would cost us in excess of $250 at the local Jewel grocery store at todayīs prices, and around $175 even at Samīs Club everyday discount bulk prices. In addition, it should provide enough protein and other foods to feed our three-member household through November.

This will greatly reduce what we need to buy at Samīs or Jewel, where we still will buy many non-food items and other food items and vitamin supplements not supplied by Angel Food. So, if you are struggling like we are, check out the Angel Food web site and look for a food distribution center near you.
